Description : Contemporary Soloists: Cello is the first part in our new range of instruments for Kontakt. Featuring unique and contemporary orchestral cello textures performed by virtuoso cellist and composer Danny Keane, it is full of soul, emotion and pristine character.

Created to fill a gap in the virtual cello market, this library has a surprisingly compelling and intimate sound that is perfect for conveying the modern cinematic sound world that can be heard in the scores of the likes of Jed Kurzel, Hildur Gudnadottir and Johann Johansson. Our custom user interface has been carefully designed to be intuitive and inspiring, allowing you to distort and shape your sound with filters, reverb, distortion and more.

Recording the Contemporary Soloists series is what we’ve been thinking since we founded Sonixinema. We see it as the culmination of everything we’ve learned during our sampling and it really captures Sonixinema’s ideals and taste. After we got to know Danny and heard him play, we knew we should get together in the studio and start learning one of our favorite instruments, the cello.
In order to convey the rich and delicate tone of Danny’s 19th century cello, we chose a relatively dry room to get the closest and most personal sound we were looking for. Inspired by contemporary film composers such as Jed Kurzel, Hildur Gudnadottir and Johann Johannsson, we wanted to capture not only a very specific sound quality, but also some very specific articulations that we feel represent the musical landscape that is found in many of our favorite voiceovers. films.

We’ve captured a number of major articulations such as Legato, Sustains, Spiccato, Pizzicato, Tremolo and Col Legno, but it’s what we’ve recorded next that really brings the library to life. In collaboration with Danny, we have created a number of unique and inspiring articulations, some of which are not found in any other sample libraries. These include Arpeggio Crossings, Warped Sustains, Circular Bowing, Harmonic Falls, Harmonic Wavers, Harmonic Glissando, and Seagull Screeches. Not only do these sounds work great as aleatoric effects, but they can also be used musically and can be used to create a mesmerizing and dark, soulful atmosphere that enriches scores and brings a surprisingly raw and realistic sound that is usually unattainable with samples. .
