The koncovka is a Slovak end-blown overtone flute without fingerholes, most often made of hazel. It is sometimes called the fujara’s younger sister. Both instruments were used by shepherds. The larger flute, the fujara, was considered the instrument of the leader of the flock and the chief shepherd. The smaller end was more often played by his assistants.
Pitch without fingerholes
Without fingerholes or keys, notes are produced solely by overblowing and opening and closing the bottom hole of the flute. Pitch is determined by air pressure and, therefore, loudness; the lowest notes are also the quietest. Due to the limited overtone scale, creating legato sounds from scales is impossible. Instead, the library offers a wide range of phrases, patterns, and highly rhythmic loops, enabling captivating performances.
Stage A
To convey the impressive atmosphere of Synchron Stage’s “Stage A,” our engineers used seven phase-coherent microphone configurations, covering a wide range of room acoustics. All signals are available as separate channels in the Vienna Synchron Player mixer section. A wide selection of presets offers ideal mixer settings and serves as an excellent starting point for creating your own sounds.
Virtuoso Performance
The final performance featured multi-instrumentalist, folk instrument expert, and member of the Synchron Stage orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova. She has performed in numerous orchestras, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
