The Akai MPC60 was released in 1988, a collaboration between Akai and technical designer Roger Linn.
The goal was to create a product similar in performance to Linn Electronics instruments, such as the Linn 9000.
The Akai MPC60 is, in a sense, a continuation of the LinnDrum line.
In addition to drums and percussion, Vol. 2 includes a small set of Stabs & FX—very typical of old-school hip-hop.
