The dizi is a Chinese transverse flute made of bamboo. A distinctive feature of this instrument is the extra hole between the embouchure and the finger holes. A finely folded membrane called a “dimo” is glued to this hole and resonates like a kazoo. The louder the dizi is played, the more the dimo resonates, making the instrument’s sound brighter and louder, and adding harmonics that give the sound a buzzing, nasal quality.
Diatonic Instruments
The library contains two dizis in the keys of G and D. The instruments are diatonic (G dizi: G, A, B, C, D, E, F-sharp; D dizi: D, E, F-sharp, G, A, B, C-sharp). However, this software instrument provides chromatic keyboard mappings for each instrument—but please keep in mind that a live musician may not be able to perform your composition if you use this feature!
Scene A
To convey the impressive ambience of Synchron Stage’s “Scene A,” our engineers used seven phase-coherent microphone configurations to provide a wide range of room acoustics. All signals are available as separate channels in the Vienna Synchron Player mixer section. A wide selection of presets offers ideal mixer settings and serves as an excellent starting point for creating your own sounds.
Virtuoso Performance
Both dizis included in this package were played by multi-instrumentalist, folk instrument expert, and member of the Synchron Stage Orchestra, Veronika Vitazkova. She has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
