Description : Sonic Academy is proud to welcome Nate Raubenheimer, known as Protoculture, for a look at a different type of genre and we’ll see how to make a hybrid orchestra. Stepping away from his usual tracks, Nate guides us from start to finish in creating this epic and grandiose masterpiece using both EastWest Play and NI Kontakt’s orchestral sections.
We’ll start by looking at a template and how to set up the various parts in your DAW, and create an initial sketch for some lead voices before breaking down a MIDI chord progression into individual string sections.
Using ever-changing automation lines to create realistic expression, we add brass sections and lead lines along with orchestral percussion to help with the transitions. Once the orchestral sections are complete, we layer synths, pads, and arps to create a wall of sound before mixing and mastering the track.
This is a master class on using orchestral elements in a digital environment. The tips and tricks that Nate will show us can translate into all sorts of genres.
