Compared to something new, there is beauty in this imperfection. A different feeling arises, perhaps a twinge of nostalgia and loss. Japanese-American electronica through jazz artist Shigeto, the pseudonym of Michigan native Zach Saginaw, embodies the spirit of wabi-sabi in his work. Electronic music suggests rigidity, perfection, quantization. However, somewhere in the chests of Ableton grid and MIDI-syncing, Shigeto embraces the imperfect.
Drum grooves swing in unpredictable rhythms. The harsh crash of a rusty kalimba note, the detuned hum of an analog synth, room noises and ambient sounds permeate his tracks. He interweaves the magnificent with the disharmonious, 4/4 dance with jazz rhythm, digital sounds with live instruments. Find them all in your new sample pack.
