The duduk is an ancient Armenian double-reed wind instrument made of seasoned apricot wood. Its warm, soft, and slightly nasal timbre is reminiscent of the English horn or a softly played tenor saxophone, but given its ability to shape the sound with air pressure, vibrato, and embellishments, it is the wind instrument most closely resembling the human voice.

World Heritage
UNESCO has declared the Armenian duduk and its music a “Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.” The instrument has become known to a wider audience thanks to its use in film scores, appearing in films and TV series such as Gladiator, Avatar, Syriana, Game of Thrones, and many others.

The instruments are diatonic (B-flat duduk: B-flat, C, D, E-flat, F, G, A; bass D duduk: D, E, F-sharp, G, A, B, C-sharp). However, this software instrument provides chromatic keyboard layouts for each instrument—but please keep in mind that a live musician may not be able to perform your composition if you use this feature!

Stage A
To capture the immersive atmosphere of Synchron Stage’s “Stage A,” our engineers used seven phase-coherent microphone configurations, covering a wide range of room acoustics. All signals are available as separate channels in the Vienna Synchron Player mixer section. A wide selection of presets offers ideal mixer settings and serves as an excellent starting point for creating your own sounds.

Virtuoso Performance
Both duduks included in this package were played by multi-instrumentalist, folk instrument expert, and member of the Synchron Stage orchestra, Veronika Vitázková. She has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
