The same virtuosity you’ve come to expect from Studio Solo string instruments, but with an added dimension: these instruments are played con sordino—with a mute. Both players and connoisseurs know that this subtle change transforms the instrument’s entire dynamic range, softening and muting the sound, opening up a whole new world of tonal possibilities. Reduced energy transfer from the strings to the instrument’s body alters the overtones and harmonics. These strings aren’t just quieter; they deliver unexpected, multi-layered sounds that are equally at home in traditional classical settings as they are in cinematic soundtracks, where the restrained, subtle timbre of the sordino is often used.

Muffled Acoustics

For the recordings, only custom-made mutes were used, perfectly matched to the bridge of each instrument and ensuring a uniform sound across all performers. The instruments were recorded in a second studio, the Silent Stage, a recording studio with a dense, controlled acoustic environment, specifically designed and built for recording samples. The compact acoustic environment of this room allows for the placement of instruments in any virtual acoustic environment, from living rooms to concert halls, from the authentic natural spaces provided by Vienna MIR Pro 3D to artificial reverb and delay effects.

Placement Presets

Using Synchron Player’s reverb and placement presets, you can place each performer in different locations within the large Synchron Stage Vienna hall. You can combine soloist positions on the left, center, and right, as well as orchestral seating options such as close, classic, and far. This allows them to be seamlessly integrated with any other Synchron series product, delivering a ready-to-use sound right out of the box.

Expressive Database

Our team of recording experts has created a perfectly balanced and flawless-sounding sample database. Carefully balanced recording volumes ensure smooth note transitions from one articulation to another. A specially designed velocity crossfading function ensures the smoothest volume changes. Our decay sampling technology significantly increases the flexibility and usability of many articulations. Notes such as detaches, pianos, crescendos, and diminuendos can be played at varying durations and always trigger the correct decay sounds. For example, you can use the first part of a crescendo note as a soft portato articulation, or the first part of a diminuendo note as an espressivo technique with a slight decrescendo, which sounds very musical and natural.

Merge Presets

If you have Studio Solo Strings installed, the merged presets combine the “senza sordino” and “con sordino” articulations, allowing you to easily switch and track all available articulations.

• First violin, second violin, viola, cello, and double bass
