Granular Collection (AKAI) is a professional sampler library of electronic sounds in the AKAI format from Bolder Sounds. The disc contains a wide variety of sounds and sound effects recorded by Dennis Burns using various keyboard instruments and designed for creating and arranging music in a wide variety of styles and genres.
Now a few words: this library is best used with hard pads and pads. Hardware synths were used in the recording, so it sounds great not only in multimedia speakers but also in the PA systems. I’ve personally verified this. If I were scoring a film where a massive space cruiser collides with a planet, I’d definitely use this library for the harmonic underlay. Burns’s experiments with Moog synths are especially good; he even created three parts with them.
I wouldn’t say the library is “awful”… That’s a rather shallow description for this remarkable disc… But “high-alloy chrome steel”βthat’s exactly what these sounds are all about.
