Additional Information: The UAD-2 platform is a hardware system, meaning all plugins only work with hardware from this company (either an internal PCIe card or an external Thunderbolt/FireWire card). The price for a complete set of licensed plugins exceeds $6,000. A similar solution is the well-known ProTools HD, which also uses DSP processors. However, unlike the AVID product, UAD plugins can be installed on any sequencer, thereby improving performance in any environment.
Most Universal Audio plugins are unique (with the exception of duplicate “partner” plugins from Sonnox, Brainworx, and Softube), and their distinctive feature lies primarily in their realistic modeling of the signal chain of real devices, while many other companies create “pseudo” processing. Over several years of successful operation, Universal Audio has released many famous replicas of hardware devices that have made history in sound recording, many of which are still produced and used today.
