Description: Quena – an ancient wind instrumentThroughout history, the Andean flutes of South America have gained wide recognition and captivated listeners around the world. Their sound has accompanied the cultures of the indigenous peoples of the Andean region for centuries. A special place among them is occupied by the Quena – a traditional wind instrument that has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Andean music and has a rich history and cultural significance. The Quena serves as an embodiment of cultural identity and a way to preserve the traditions of the Andean peoples, while enchanting listeners with its magical melodies and emotional depth.

In this series of recordings, we proudly present Peruvian maestro Quique Pinto. He moved from the Andes to Lima as a child, and then spent his life traveling the Andes and Amazon, studying the roots of the local musical tradition—instruments, vocal techniques, and sounds—to create his own music and songs. His collection includes one of the largest collections of authentic flutes and instruments from the region, and he has become a true ambassador for the indigenous music of Peru and the Andes.
