PSP Impressor also has an easily adjustable side-chain. The side-chain filter has a significant impact on the sound and operation of PSP Impressor. Depending on the side-chain filter settings, the filter also allows you to use the compressor as a de-esser or to reduce the pumping effects of heavy bass drums and the like.

Anybody afflicted with big holes in knowledge (such as myself), one quite blatant example of one of the myriad of uses for compressors can be heard in many of Jerry Garcia’s guitar solos…….. on a Tele- or Stratocaster it’s the Fender sound on steroids; the compressor is behind Jerry’s crisp, punchy leads.
