MPC Samples presents the fifth installment in a series of royalty-free drum hits and breaks—recorded directly to tape, mixed using analog outboard gear, mastered to a 12-inch dubplate, and finally sampled back from vinyl. Volume 6 contains 204 original drum breaks played with brushes. Tempos range from 85 to 100 BPM and were specifically chosen to represent the Boom Bap genre. Each break is provided in both a “pre-vinyl” master version and a version sampled from the pressed vinyl. Recorded directly to analog tape using a three-microphone setup: a close mic on the kick, a close mic on the snare, and an overhead mic. Mixed using analog compressors and EQs before being sent to a Neumann lathe. Performed and engineered by Timmy Rickard.
