Pawn Shop Comp 2.0 is a professional tool that will make a big difference in the quality of your mixes. It sounds great on any audio source and in almost any application.
More than just a compressor, Pawn Shop Comp is a fully adjustable tube preamp, two-band EQ and swappable components that give you unparalleled control over every parameter of the plugin.
The developer claims that Pawn Shop Comp 2.0 is a very versatile compressor suitable for a wide range of applications and signals. It is based on a hybrid lamp and FET circuit. The plugin also includes a tube preamp and a two-band EQ.
The “front panel” has all the necessary compressor parameters: threshold, ratio, attack, release, a “make it beautiful” button and a large VU meter. The fun begins when you open the virtual box and dive inside. This is where the input/output meters and controls for the preamp gain, offset, wet/dry level and operating level, as well as the EQ, are located. The EQ bands are called “weight” and “focus” and now offer switchable frequencies (63/171 Hz and 1.6/2.4 kHz). According to the developer, all parameter ranges have been expanded for greater sound flexibility.
Like the first version, Pawn Shop Comp 2.0 takes customization to the next level by allowing you to change components. The original plugin allowed you to select one of two types of resistors and field effect transistors. In version 2.0, you can now also experiment with three different preamp tubes and three types of output transformers. It’s almost like building your own compressor, and the great GUI makes it even more fun. Speaking of the GUI, it is now larger and can be resized and the level meters have been moved.
