Quanta 2 is a full-featured, easy-to-use granular synthesizer.
Possibilities :
• Quanta 2’s multi-format sample loader
can load AIFF, WAV, Broadcast WAV, FLAC, MP3 and Ogg at any sample rate, bit depth and channel configuration. It automatically converts the sample
to the session sample rate and attempts to find the root note.
• Grain Engine
Up to 100 simultaneous grains per voice, up to 1 second long, with control over grain rate,
pitch, direction, shape, length, pan, source position and level.
Two virtual analog oscillators.
Continuously variable waveform with pulse width modulation
and independent pitch control (separate from the grain engine).
Can be fed directly into the grain engine.
• Noise Source
The noise source has a ‘colour’ control that affects the tonal characteristics of the noise.
Can be fed directly into the grain engine.
• Dual Multi-Mode Filters
Filters can be used in series or parallel mode and include
a low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch filter
in 2-pole and 4-pole configurations.
• Flexible Envelope Generator (FEG) x 4
Four FEGs are arbitrary function generators with control over up to 99 steps,
step curves and level, arbitrary cycle points, and host tempo sync.
• Flexible Low Frequency Oscillator (FLFO) x 2
A pair of bipolar FLFOs use five controls
(amplitude, phase, shape, skew, and warp) to access a virtually limitless palette of waveforms,
and also feature host tempo sync and re-trigger.
• Sample and Hold
The S&H modulation source can sample noise (random)
or any other modulation sources at either a user-specified rate
or with musical separation.
• Modulation Menu
Each mod and MIDI source can be easily and simply assigned to any destination
using the right-click context menu. Simply right-click
and add or remove all mod sources.
• Microtuning with tuning tables and global tuning offset
Re-tune Quanta 2 to new intonations and temperaments
with native support for ODDSound’s MTS-ESP session tuning system.
Alternatively, download tuning tables in the open source
, easy-to-use TUN file format. Global tuning offset (default A=440) lets
you easily re-tune the entire synth to match a different A frequency without using a tuning table.
• MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression)
Quanta 2 understands both “legacy” MIDI and MPE. Use a Linnstrument, Roli Seaboard,
Haken Continuum, or Madrona Labs Soundplane (among others) for direct access to note pressure,
pitch bend, and modulation.
• Per-instance Settings
Quanta 2 uses a per-instance method of setting: set MPE mode,
aftertouch smoothing, pitch bend range override, tuning table
, and global tuning offset for every instance in your DAW.
• Factory Presets
Quanta 2 comes with a vast collection of factory content, including designer presets
from Markus Fischer, Joseph Fraioli, Chris Carter, Red. Means Recording, Red Sky Lullaby, and Richard Devine.
• Cross-Platform Preset Format
Quanta 2 uses an XML-based preset manager
and stores a sample within a preset for easy asset management.
Work seamlessly between multiple systems and easily share your creations with friends
or create a preset pack to sell, no asset management required.
• Fully resizable Hi-Dpi/Retina GUI
Quanta 2’s vector-based GUI is resolution independent
and displays the same on any system and resolution. Easily resize the UI
(per instance) to suit your visual needs,
from postage stamp size to poster size, and save your preferred size in global settings.
What’s New in Quanta 2 :
New User Interface
The user interface has been cleaned up, modernized, and updated with panels for greater clarity
and to accommodate new controls.
Modulation Assignment Reworked
We’ve replaced the matrix modulation assignment panel with a right-click context menu,
like in Continua and Phosphor 3. Additionally, the controls now have indicators to show the modulation.
Quanta 2 ‘s extra VA Oscillator
has two virtual analog oscillators instead of the original’s one.
Use one for sub-bass, send both to the grain engine, granulate one
and leave the other normal – whatever you like!
Defining and Assigning a Root Note
When you drag a sample onto Quanta 2 or load it via the import dialog,
Quanta 2 attempts to find the sample’s root note. (This obviously works better with single legato notes
than with chords or complete musical loops.) Once imported, you can adjust the root note to your liking.
Grain Pitch Quantization
You can optionally limit the pitch of a grain to specific notes.
This quantization is post-modulation, so any randomization or modification applied to the grain tuning
will be quantized to the scale you choose. Quantization also takes into account the tuning table or MTS-ESP tuning.
Quanta’s effects
now include chorus, stereo dual delay, and reverb taken from the Audio Damage studio effects library.
New Modulation Features
The Envelope Generators and LFOs have been significantly improved. The FEGs take the amplitude and timebase knobs,
and the FLFOs gain amplitude control, a switchable bipolar output, and a sync switch
that causes FLFO 2 to reset whenever FLFO 1 is triggered. Additionally,
four macro knobs have been added to the modulation panel, and they can receive global MIDI CC assignment,
allowing you to control macros from the MIDI controller of your choice, regardless of what the preset author has selected.
Quanta 1 Preset Download
Quanta 2 contains all the presets from Quanta 1 and all the post-release packs we commissioned,
plus new preset packs from Red Means Recording and Red Sky Lullaby, as well as those created in-house.
In addition, Quanta 2 will download all the presets created for Quanta 1. If you created presets for Quanta 1,
simply drag the folder into your Quanta 2 user presets folder and they will appear in Quanta 2, ready to go.
List of changes :
v2.1.2 (October 7, 2024)
• Maintenance update.
• Fixed a crash when tapping the settings panel outside of controls.
• Made panel tab labels brighter.
• Fixed a crash when changing presets while the lock button is enabled.
The lock button and all enabled keys turn off whenever
the preset zoom in/out buttons are pressed. (iPadOS only)
PLEASE NOTE: If you are using the Linux version of Quanta 2, JUCE 8.0.2,
which we built on, has some drawing issues.
You will notice that when you close the settings window, there will be some tearing and artifacts in the bottom half of the main screen.
A quick small resize or toggling of the bottom panel will get rid of the artifacts;
we will make a new Linux build once the JUCE folks have resolved this issue.
