JJ is best known as the founder of the innovative 1980s pioneering group Art of Noise. Art of Noise was essentially JJ, Anne Dudley, Gary Langan, with ZTT overlords Trevor Horn and Paul Morley contributing to the production and PR skills of the core musicians. Tracks like “Moments in Love” and “Close (to the Edit)” represent landmarks in the evolution of sampling and remain classics to this day.
After initial success, the musicians broke away from ZTT and began producing tracks with renowned icons such as Max Headroom, Tom Jones, Dan Ackroyd, and Duane Eddy. JJ has collaborated with and remixed artists such as Stephen ‘Tin Tin’ Duffy and Shakin’ Stevens (!), and has recently immersed himself in the worlds of film, television, advertising, and multimedia. He has a new LP, “The Art of Silence,” just released; check out his website for more information. The last time I spoke to him, he was talking about leaving music because he felt he was getting too old for it and had now ‘bought the T-shirt,’ so to speak.
