The new version introduces an FM synthesis engine section developed in collaboration with Yamaha; it allows for the combination of up to eight operators, while the Algorithm Finder function facilitates the creation of both classic Yamaha DX7 synth sounds and modern FM patches. Additionally, the software now supports importing instrument files (SYX format) from Yamaha hardware, including the DX7 and TX81Z. Another update is the Spectral Zone section, featuring a spectral oscillator with Time-Stretch and Resynthesis algorithms, offering parameters such as Formant Shift, Spectral Filter, Purity, and Inharmonicity for diverse sample transformations.
HALion’s modulation capabilities have also been expanded via a redesigned interface that allows modulation sources and destinations to be assigned using drag-and-drop or the new Modulation Row interface (which appears when clicking on parameters). Furthermore, the Envelope module has gained brush, pen, and eraser tools, enabling the easy creation of custom envelopes alongside a range of preset shapes; meanwhile, a new Shaper mode allows for cycling through different envelope shapes in sync with the DAW tempo. In addition, several updated effects were introduced, including an equalizer, delay, chorus, overdrive, and envelope filter, as well as the ability to import impulse response files for use with the REVerence reverb effect. Steinberg has reportedly included several built-in files derived from iconic effect units from companies such as EMT and Lexicon. Other HALion 7 improvements include expanded wavetable synthesis capabilities, an updated mixer with enhanced effect processing features, and a redesigned MediaBay offering a streamlined workflow for browsing and selecting samples, layers, and presets.
Installation:
If you previously installed TEAM R2R Network Block Runtime, uninstall it! To uninstall, run unins000.exe located in C:\Program Files\TEAM R2R\Network Block Runtime.
Note:
If Silk Emulator v1.5.0 and the latest version of TEAM R2R System are already installed, skip steps 1–3.
- Install TEAM R2R System
- Install Setup Steinberg Silk Emulator v1.5.0.exe
- Reboot the OS
Uninstall the previous version (recommended by R2R, but optional) - Install Steinberg Mediabay (This is required for the content browser to work; without Mediabay, the content list may appear empty.)
- Install HALion7.msi
- Place the “Content” folder into:
%PROGRAMDATA%\Steinberg\
If Steinberg Library Manager (SLM) is installed, launch it and drag the “Content” folder into the SLM window.
Note:
R2R does not mention installing the R2RCA.cer certificate in their instructions, but it has been included in the release just in case.
