You probably know me from my work with Karnivool, Twelve Foot Ninja, Good Tiger, Dead Letter Circus, and Sikth, among many others. I’m known for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within a project, and I encourage this approach in all aspiring artists.
I’m a full-time producer and sound engineer based on Australia’s Gold Coast and am thrilled to share my years of experience with the next generation of audio professionals.
As producers, we’re always looking for something unique, a sound that no one else can replicate and that is unmistakably recognizable. While many parts of a recording can be preserved and restored, one thing that can never be replicated is the ambience of the original recording’s physical location. If you can capture this unique sonic signature in your mix, you’ll create something that can never be recreated or replicated by anyone, anywhere, ever. Depth, a sense of space, and three-dimensionality—a snapshot of a unique moment in space and time.
In this crash course, I’ll show you how to create ambience using natural, synthetic, and hybrid methods, using a variety of instruments and sources. This is the next step to uncovering your unique sound as a producer.
