Concept and Inspiration

We drew inspiration from some of our favorite musical artists (such as Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada, Jon Brion, Throbbing Gristle, Joe Maus, Laurie Spiegel, Yazoo, and others) to create something that makes us ask: is it just shit, or is it the shit? It is, without a doubt, a wide selection of 3 x 16 (see specs below) functional instruments combined into a single plugin, designed to foster a holistic approach to making your music more lo-fi, retro, gritty, and—dare we say—completely free of AI slop.

Sound Palette and Sources

From pianos to strings, plucked instruments, squeaks, bass, and pads. This collection was lovingly crafted by our in-house composer and sampling expert; this plugin from Christian Henson eliminates the hassle of dealing with the degradation in quality often found in existing sounds. It is designed for those seeking a brand-new set of Mellotron-style sounds, as well as synths that have long been forgotten—and for good reason. Many of the sampled instruments possess that unsettling sound of electronic relics on their last legs; a bit “crappy,” but… the good kind of crap, if you know what we mean. It features synths ranging from the beloved Roland JX3P and Prophet VS to the lesser-known Wersi String Orchestra, alongside time-tested electric pianos and acoustic instruments—each presented via three distinct sound sources:

• Analog
• Digital
• Sampled

Processing and Signal Path

We also meticulously crafted a truly mesmerizing, elegiac signal path—utilizing vintage Roberts radios, cassette decks, old channel mixers, and other outboard gear—to offer you a fresh, original take on sounds that were dusty and long-forgotten. Yet, the love for music extends beyond just the recording process: the control panel removes the friction involved in shaping and unleashing your own music.

Controls and Effects

Thanks to an innovative approach to sidechain compression, you can “pump” any instrument in real-time using your left hand via a series of “side-triggers.” These can be quantized and edited just like any standard MIDI note, allowing you to fine-tune the aggression and “choke” of your sound. Add to this cassette-style processing, spring reverbs from our extensive in-house collection, and a delicate overdrive control calibrated to plunge your music into an even more retro, gloriously lo-fi quagmire.

The Verdict

We’re confident you’ll feel the love poured into every sound in this collection, complete with plenty of surprises and Easter eggs to discover and draw inspiration from. We ventured into a sonic territory where few would dare to tread—a place with a distinct, meaty aroma. Now, go wash your hands (while your listeners clean out their ears).
