In the exquisite world of great concert musicians, there are very few instruments that leave a lasting impression on the masters who played them. The Ivory II American Concert D is one such instrument.
This vintage 1951 New York Steinway D (CD 121) was selected by the Steinway & Sons Concert Department for promotion to Steinway artists.
For many years, this instrument has been highly prized by the world’s greatest concert musicians. Indeed, the piano’s soundboard bears the signatures of Glenn Gould, Rudolf Serkin, and many others, testifying to the high regard of the world’s great masters.
Touch it, and it’s easy to understand why. The instrument possesses an exceptionally pure and transparent sound, yet with a singing timbre, mature beauty, and resonance found only in concert instruments of this class. Recording took place at the François-Bernier Concert Hall in Le Domaine Forget in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, the same hall where Ivory’s renowned German Steinway was recorded.
To capture every detail of this remarkable instrument’s sound, master concert technician Michel Pedneau, performer and producer Joe Ierardi, and engineer Mark Donahue of Soundmirror reunited.
The Ivory II American Concert D, with its 49GB library, is the largest single piano in the Ivory family. This American Steinway boasts a naturally long sustain that is recorded in its entirety to the final decay, with some notes lasting over two minutes. Also included are up to 20 levels of velocity sensitivity, more soft pedal samples, and more release samples for more detailed recording than any previous Ivory instrument.
The Ivory II American Concert D is powered by the award-winning Ivory II engine and contains the full Ivory II feature set, most notably our renowned harmonic resonance modeling technology for realizing true sympathetic string resonance. This technology, developed specifically by Synthogy DSP guru George Taylor, requires no additional samples or conventional sine waves. Instead, striking harmonically related notes excites the actual complex overtones of the held notes, similar to how undamped strings resonate in a real acoustic piano. Combined with the new American Concert D samples, the results are simply stunning, a culmination of Synthogy’s most powerful technologies combined with our most advanced sampling methods.
The Ivory II American Concert D is a standalone virtual instrument. A previous version of Ivory is not required. Of course, owners of existing versions of the Ivory II will find it quite easy to install into their current library.
