Description: The developer of Nembrini Audio has released a new product, and this time it’s not an amplifier simulator. Rather, it’s a Shimmer Delay Ambient Machine plugin, a kind of delay effect that turns a single note into full-fledged album soundscapes.
The plugin is built on the concepts and methods of studio engineers and producers from the early 1980s. This is mainly due to the creative applications of reverb, pitch shifting and feedback to create rich, moving soundscapes from any instrument and sound source.
The user interface is very clean and simple. It has been designed with real-time settings in mind, so the controls are color-coded and their response is smooth. The ambient waves have their own section with Time, Sensitivity and Ramp mode controls. The delay section has the traditional controls for timing, offset, feedback, bass cut and treble cut.
Pitch shifter goes down an octave with adjustable level and regen controls. Shimmer, also important for this distinct liveliness, has controls for level, distortion, midtones and regeneration. A Dry/Wet mixing knob and a pair of input/output peak meters complete the interface.
Shimmer Delay is great for creating fantastic sounds. Nembrini takes audio quality very seriously, and the starting price makes this a great value plugin. If you like delay that borders on reverb and you know Pink Floyd stuff by heart, you might fall in love.
Don´t forget Allan Holdsworth’s “vision” over that “shimmer thing” in his fusion compositions.
