Description: Boston is an American rock band that has released only five studio albums in its thirty years of existence.
The band has always been led by Tom Scholz, with the other members changing over time. While still a student, he wrote most of the songs that years later formed the basis of their debut album, “Boston”. The release of this disc in 1976 allowed a portion of the youth audience, who had become fascinated with fashionable trends like punk rock and disco, to return to classic rock. The album is one of the highest-grossing debut albums in US history (17 million copies sold).

Along with Queen, the band played a decisive role in developing the complex guitar harmonies that formed the basis of the music of such popular bands of the eighties as Def Leppard. The song “More Than a Feeling” from the band’s debut album became one of the most famous stadium anthems in the history of rock music. Kurt Cobain admitted that the main guitar lick in his song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was an unconscious borrowing from “More Than a Feeling.” During one of his concert performances, he even sang the chorus of “More Than a Feeling” as a sign of how tired he was of Nirvana’s first super hit.

In 1978, the band’s second album, “Don’t Look Back,” was released, selling seven million copies. The band members were ready to immediately record a third disc, but Tom Scholz insisted that preparing a new album would take time. His perfectionism led to the fact that Boston effectively ceased to exist in 1979-83. In 1986, their third album, also called “Third Stage,” was finally released. Fans had to wait eight years for the next disc, “Walk On”; the fifth album, “Corporate America,” went on sale another eight years later. In 2007, lead singer and frontman Brad Delp committed suicide, leaving Boston’s future in limbo.
