Description:
So, this is it—an original FNDR Black Face DLX Rebverb amp from 1963 (SIC!), pre-CBS. Completely original, save for some replaced filter capacitors. This amp was used by literally every major band at some point, at least in one of the many studios where it was a staple.
It has been used across virtually every genre and playing style and is extremely versatile.
Clean sound and sharp overdrive—this is the embodiment of the archetypal FNDR BF amp sound we remember from the 1960s to this day. It works great with single-coil pickups and brings out the most distinctive Stratocaster sounds, and it’s also phenomenal with humbuckers, allowing you to create everything from beautiful clean jazz chords to pure rock crunch.
It also works beautifully with effects pedals, and unlike most other amps, it’s very generous in terms of pedal adjustments. Unlike many other amps where you have to fine-tune the tone down to the millimeter, this one has a wide range of excellent settings that work well.
Due to its flexibility, dual channels, and popularity, this set of settings is larger than usual. The focus is on cleaner tones with more variety, but the more distorted options offer plenty of variety as well.
Sound was recorded through the built-in Oxford 12K5-6 speaker, using the following microphones: 2x Royer R121, 1x Beyerdynamic M160, and 1x Neumann U87.
