Starting with Cubase 12 and related tools, Steinberg completely abandoned the legacy eLicenser protection (USB dongles and soft-keys) in favor of the Silk cloud-based authentication system. The R2R emulator integrates into the operating system at the service or background process level and intercepts requests made by plugins and DAWs to official Steinberg servers. The utility spoofs server responses, informing the program that absolutely all legitimate licenses are activated on the current computer.
