Description : Arco is a beautiful ensemble of four pianos, carefully sampled in the concert hall, with many bowed and plucked articulations. Arco is ideal for creating dramatic sounds, shimmering textures and lush melodic lines. Created within a year, Arco’s unique sonic flavors are the first of their kind to be a welcome addition to any composer’s toolkit.
Arco’s sound can be described as a hybrid of piano and string ensemble. We took four pianos (two pianos and two pianos), placed them in a concert hall, and played each note with a series of techniques. After weeks of planning and experimentation, we settled on nylon line coated with two types of rosin – bass rosin for the low range and cello rosin for the high range.
In addition to bow articulations, the library also contains click sounds, a plucked tremolo with a special script, as well as a number of atonal and aleatoric effects and glissandi.
Designed with the needs of today’s film, TV and game composers in mind, Arco is extremely easy to play right out of the box with a clean and accessible user interface.
We spent 3 days in a state of the art recording studio in a concert hall recording an ensemble with 20 high quality microphones (including Neumann, DPA, Royer, Coles and Schoeps) through a flawless signal path (D.A.V. preamps, RME converters). Our chosen hall features a delightfully rich, dense yet fairly short reverb tail, perfect for creating a sense of distance yet dry enough to add its own reverb to taste. Three included mic mixes make it easy to select the perfect sound for your music, and a unique ‘perspective’ control gives you a single slider to easily switch between near and far mixes.
