Four recorders, ten microphones, a windless night, a full moon, an empty park, and $600 worth of fireworks—handpicked by a pyrotechnician—made for a great time! But I didn’t just want to record the fireworks; I also wanted to manipulate them in real-time as we captured the sounds. To do this, I brought along several props, including a 2-meter drainage pipe, a rounded-bottom cauldron, a bowl of water, short metal pipes, an air conditioning vent, and a metal box—all excellent sources of resonance!
