Description:
In 1985, the Korg DW-8000 combined digital wavetables with rich analog filters to give users sounds impossible to create with analog oscillators.
Today, it remains iconic. Released in 2021, Modwave builds on DW’s legacy and transforms it into a modern synthesizer monster, equipped with incredibly deep oscillators, stunning filters, incredibly flexible modulation, complex pattern sequencing, and macro controls for creating unique, powerful, and easily customizable sounds and phrases.

What is a wavetable?
Wavetables are sets of single-cycle digital signals arranged in a specific order. The “position” of a wavetable determines which waveform is played. Moving the position using an envelope, LFO, or other modulation source results in subtle or abrupt changes in timbre. Some wavetables abruptly switch from one waveform to another; others fade smoothly between them. Modwave can do both.

Modifiers
Use over 30 modifiers to change the character of any wavetable during loading. For example, isolate odd or even harmonics, add weight with quantization or saturation with smoothing, or revisit the raw character of old-school wavetable synthesizers with Vintage 8 and 12 options.

Morph
13 morphing types allow you to stretch, compress, reflect, and otherwise manipulate wavetables in real time, altering their timbre and—with modulation—creating additional movement in the sound. Sync creates classic sweep-synced timbres using only a single oscillator. Three special Morph types—FM, AM, and Ring Mod—modulate Osc 2 with Osc 1, and the latter two even apply to samples.

A/B Blend
Using the unique A/B Blend mode, oscillators can blend any two wavetables with phase-locked precision—as opposed to simply layering voices—opening up the dimension of intermediate waveforms. For example, add body to “subtle” waveforms or a bit of hiss to a soft timbre. Even the decay between two different “modifier” versions of the same wavetable. Of course, the A/B blend can be modulated in real time.
