Powered by a dual-line arpeggiator engine with over 1,100 hand-crafted presets, Gethen transforms simple chord input into complex, vibrant arpeggiated textures—the same hypnotic, evolving patterns you hear in the works of Glass, Richter, or Frahm, but entirely your own.
Gethen is a cinematic, motion-focused Kontakt library. It’s built on a custom dual-line arpeggiator engine designed to generate arpeggios, evolving phrases, rhythmic sequences, and aleatoric textures in real time. No pre-recorded loops required: simply hold a group of notes, and the engine does the rest.
From graceful neoclassical string ostinatos to granular vocal choirs, percussive metallophones, and synthetic pulses, Gethen transforms a simple input signal into intricate, multi-layered movement.
With over 150 sound sources, including acoustic strings, vocals, tuned drums, and electronic textures, and over 1,100 presets ready to be added to your session, Gethen provides film composers and sound designers with an instant palette of kinetic, cinematic sound, as well as drag-and-drop support for custom samples, so the engine grows with your workflow.
SOUNDS
Gethen’s over 150 sound sources include solo strings, woodwinds, vocals, bowed metal instruments, plucked instruments, synthesizers, and texture layers, all organized into sustains and short fragments, each of which behaves differently when passed through the arpeggiator.
The organic sources were recorded as multisampled instruments with chromatic mapping, looping, and dynamic layers. The resulting sound sources were developed using advanced spectral processing techniques in Kyma, a sound design environment widely used in Hollywood music and post-production. Many sounds combine both approaches, existing in a space between the realistic and the surreal: familiar enough to feel cinematic, yet strange enough to feel new.
At the core of Gethen are two independent arpeggiators, each controlling its own sound layer. Set a tempo synchronized with the previous one, set note sequences, and step patterns, just like with any arpeggiator, and then go further: combine and split steps, mute and unmute sounds within a line, and form bars that go beyond rigid repetition.
What sets this engine apart is how it responds to what you feed it. Load a sustained violin or soprano sound, and it will behave like a rhythmic granular engine, creating movement from long tones. Load a spiccato, staccato, or percussive hit, and it switches to a dynamic sequencer, triggering precise rhythmic patterns. The engine automatically detects the sound type; no setup is required (no pre-recorded loops or phrases; what you hear is created in real time from the original sound sources and your input).
Layer two arpeggiators (any combination of granular and sequenced, or two of the same type), and you’ll create complex, non-static patterns from a single held chord. But the real power lies in how the engine adapts to your playing. Play a sequence by holding some notes and moving others, and the arpeggio will change in real time to match your playing. You don’t trigger a preset pattern; you control it.
Over 1,100 PRESETS
Gethen comes with over 1,100 ready-made patches (snapshots) that map sound sources to arpeggiator configurations, effects, and tempo settings to give you ready-to-use patterns from the first note.
Snapshots are organized by category: hybrid violin, cello, viola, textured strings, brass phrases, vocals, and more. Each category contains variations based on tempo, division into straight and triplet notes, and various pattern styles. The same source sound can yield dozens of different variations depending on the engine configuration, so each category is very extensive.
Browse by instrument, tempo, or sound quality (tempo-synced or free) and use any snapshot as a starting point to create your own sounds.
YOUR SOUNDS, SAME ENGINE
Drag your own samples onto any layer and run them through the full arpeggiator: the same sequencing/granulation behavior, the same step editing, the same adaptive voicing. Gethen treats your sounds exactly like its own.
Any uploaded The sample you create inherits the entire engine, so Gethen works as a constant creative tool long after you’ve explored all the factory sounds.
