The Vienna Concert Hall is a truly legendary venue. Renowned for its stunning architecture and exceptional acoustics, it also houses an outstanding example of Austrian musical tradition and craftsmanship: the Great Rieger Organ, often called the Queen of Organs. One look and one note are enough to understand why.

As the largest concert organ in continental Europe, this instrument not only towers over the audience but also sounds incredibly powerful. We were granted exclusive access to this extraordinary instrument in all its glory so you can experience its majestic sound firsthand. Mixer presets and user settings expand the capabilities of this remarkable instrument far beyond the genres it’s typically used for.

Control of all registers

With 116 registers across five manuals and a pedalboard, the Vienna Organ Player was built by the renowned Gebruder Rieger company of Jägerndorf, Silesia, and installed in 1913—the year of the official opening of the venerable concert hall in the heart of Vienna. Its installation in such a setting—unlike an organ in an overly reverberant cathedral—makes it an ideal complement to orchestral instruments playing on stage or in a concert hall.

Organ Player

The adjustable organ player allows easy control of the organ’s manuals and pedalboard, providing convenient access to various registers for creating your own registers. Furthermore, the Vienna Organ Player supports multitimbral operation, allowing you to control the manuals and pedalboard via dedicated MIDI channels.

The player is easily controlled using three main tabs. The COMBINE tab provides an overview of all organ drawbars, divided into manuals and pedal. The manuals and pedal are connected to their own audio channels, which you can view and edit in the MIX tab. The PLAY tab provides access to parameters useful for live performance.

Organ Player also includes our powerful tuning system. Explore a variety of tuning presets, import your own Scala and KBM files, and experiment with advanced microtuning options like MTS-ESP for dynamic tuning changes.

Organic Reverb

Customize the sound of the Great Hall, even when the Rieger organ’s airbox is in standby mode. Choose between the standard playing ranges of the manuals and pedal, or customize them across the 88-key keyboard. The “Tremulant” function modifies the air flow, producing tremolo and subtle vibrato. You can add even more expressiveness to your performance by assigning the “Swell” function to all or specific manuals to recreate the effect of closed pipes in a “swell cabinet.”

Mixer Presets

When recording in the ambience of the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus, a variety of expertly crafted mixer presets allow you to tailor the organ placement and reverb to the sound of your project. Mixer presets are available in the categories “Standard & Style” (with presets such as “Messiaen,” “Toccata & Fugue,” “Animated Fairytale,” and “Pop Anthem”), “Concert Venues” (including various halls of the Wiener Konzerthaus and The Sage Gateshead), “Recording Scenes” (Synchron Stage Vienna, Teldex Berlin, ORF Sendesaal), and “Sacred Venues” (chapels and churches).
