Vela Woodwinds’ The Sound Between The Sea and The Stars was born from the space between gravity and stillness, from the low breath of a clarinet refracted through starlight, silence and frozen movement.
Where traditional woodwind libraries emphasize agility, articulation, and orchestral form, we turned toward something slower, deeper: a meditation on tone as atmosphere. Inspired by the Vela constellation, Latin for “sail”, we imagined an instrument that doesn’t perform, but floats.
Using organic recordings of Bass and Contra Clarinet as our foundation, we sculpted evolving textures not through virtuosity, but through transformation. Powered by our Infinite Motion Engine™ and Non-Static Sampling™, Vela breathes without looping, revealing new dimensions with each sustained note.
What emerges is neither classical nor ambient, but something weightless in between. A library that reimagines woodwinds as vessels of sonic motion, drifting through oceanic depths and interstellar space.

Non-Static Sampling™ developed by Founder Michael Vignola was born from a desire to capture what makes real instruments feel human, the way a tone shifts as breath changes, how texture waves under pressure, or how resonance deepens with time. Meet The Musician
Raymond Brien is a British-Canadian clarinetist and composer whose work sits at the edge of contemporary and electro-acoustic music. Known for expressive depth and a love of extended techniques, he brings sensitivity to the bass and contra clarinet, transforming their tonal range into something deeply human and otherworldly. A frequent collaborator with ensembles like Apartment House, Riot Ensemble, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Raymond also leads The Thinking Minds Project, a platform for experimental and interdisciplinary creation. For Vela Woodwinds, he lends both his technical precision and artistic intuition to shape a sonic world that floats between the sea and the stars.
