Description: Banjo
We’re pleased to introduce Evolution Bluegrass Banjo, a comprehensive library of fingerpicked banjo samples. The banjos we sampled for this library have a pleasant, clear sound. The tone is quite versatile, capable of conveying both elegant clean sustain and a powerful, instant attack to add drive to your song when needed. This banjo also boasts a sharp, hard sound, which can be achieved by using louder dynamics, playing closer to the bridge, or using the built-in effects.
Evolution Bluegrass Banjo is based on our Evolution engine, which provides a wealth of features, including an innovative strumming pattern editor, automatic chord detection, and a powerful built-in effects engine. If you’ve used any of our guitar or bass libraries powered by the Evolution engine, the interface and operation will be familiar. The library contains numerous ready-to-use presets with classic and modern banjo tones that fit perfectly into a mix.
We developed the library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah’s most respected recording studios. Guy Randle, the company’s owner and engineer, used analog audio equipment to skillfully convey and highlight the instrument’s rich tonal qualities.
The banjo samples were performed by talented multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tilby. Known for his wide range of sounds and styles, Ryan has performed at Telluride, Merlefest, FanFest, RockyGrass, and countless other music festivals across the US, and has toured Europe numerous times. His music has been featured on the show Duck Dynasty, the Discovery Channel, and the program Outdoor Photo Adventures. Ryan Tilby also provides remote recording services for clients worldwide requiring guitar, banjo, bass, mandolin, and ukulele tracks.

Version history
Version 1.3.0 (2025-07-02)
Added :
• New settings: “Legato Time Start” and “Legato Time Length” that let you set time thresholds for whether or not the legato articulations will get triggered.
• New setting: “Strum Pattern Dynamic” to control the strumming pattern dynamic in real-time.
• New setting: “Mapping Octave” that shifts the instruments’ entire mapping up/down by octaves.
• New setting: “Performance Effect Muting” to make things like string slaps mute any held notes.
Improved :
• String overriding keyswitches are now MIDI channel specific, only applying to notes on the same MIDI channel as the keyswitch.
• MIDI guitar setting is now a dropdown menu with different options for how each string is mapped to different MIDI channels.
• “Dynamic Memory” setting is now a dropdown menu named “Sample Purging” that contains an addition option to revert to Kontakt’s own built-in memory handling.
• “Release Slide Down” articulation can now get selected even after a note is initially triggered.
Fixed :
• Pitch bend modes intermittently not affecting notes.
• A bug where strumming performance FX wouldn’t mute notes held on the keyboard in certain situations.
• A bug where certain strummed chords would get played as legato in specific scenarios.
