String Formations is a collection of continuous string textures and gestural effects that expand on traditional string libraries and infuse your music with detail and animation.
About the library
A small group of three violins, violas and cellos. Ideal for chamber music, but can also enhance a large orchestra, adding extra dynamics and movement to traditional string libraries.
String Formations was recorded in the spaciousStudio 1 at The Nave and offers three sound options: close mics provide a dry sound, middle (conductor position) and far mics add the natural acoustics of the hall, helping to perfectly blend the library with other instruments.
This library expands on our innovative Smart Trills from Petrichor: Earthy Winds by introducing the Chordal Textures patch . When you activate the smart mode on these articulations, you get automatic transformation of chords into complex interval sequences, creating expressive textures in your music.
We’ve also included 16 atmospheric layers created by processing the original recordings. These can be used either alongside the core set of articulations or in our Layer Blends engine to expand the library’s capabilities.
Chordal Textures Patch
This set of seven articulations uses a sophisticated execution engine that analyzes held notes and intelligently plays samples with smooth transitions between them, offering a unique way to play chords.
When the smart mode is activated, you can play freely without worrying about choosing specific scales or modes. However, it is possible to isolate individual intervals, which sometimes leads to unexpected harmonic solutions when improvising.
For each articulation, you can increase the number of simultaneously sounding intervals in the settings. This will give you more control over the timbre and allow you to change the dynamics of the instrument right during the performance.
Unison Textures Patch
The core of String Formations is the 16 unison articulations that support the Chordal Textures patch . They include both long-lasting evolving sounds and unusual variations: Drifts (glissando) , Droplets (repeating pizzicato) and Swells (crescendo) . They can be used individually in compositions or creatively combined, expanding the sonic possibilities of the library.
Layer Blends Engine
Expanding on the concept of Zen: Meditations and Trails , the Layer Blends engine in String Formations allows you to blend basic articulations with processed atmospheric layers from the Layers menu . With 27 source sounds and over 17,500 possible combinations, a wide range of sonic possibilities opens up, which can be further expanded with global effects: envelopes, filtering, lo-fi processing, delay and reverb.
Prefer presets? The Fracture Sounds team has prepared 28 snapshots with the best sounds. Or you can simply press the Shuffle button – and the system will select a random combination of available sounds.
The Library ensemble
uses an ensemble of three violins, three violas, and three cellos. This dynamic lineup is easily adaptable to any task. Playing chords with two hands creates a more symphonic texture, while single notes and the Chordal Textures patch in low density mode create a more intimate sound.
Unlike other string libraries where each group of instruments was recorded separately, the members of String Formations were recorded together in one room, creating a more cohesive ensemble sound.

Using the power of Native Instruments ‘ Komplete Kontrol keyboards, you get full control over the instrument using the built-in display and parameter controls on the keyboard. This also means that this library is accessible to blind and visually impaired musicians.
