“With this pack I wanted to create a more organic direction for the series, drawing inspiration from the rich culture of ancient Norse history, touching on the occult, warlike and contemplative aspects of their way of life. Musically I tried to capture their passionate and vibrant emotions – different in each piece, using the versatility of the cello’s sonic character. While the desire for historical accuracy and authenticity was a benefit throughout, I also wanted to create a sound that was contemporary, and so went for a hybrid sound design style of synths, subs and pads to enhance the acoustic implementation.
Continuing with my approach to building scenes in films, fleshing out each piece in physical space and atmosphere, I wanted to take it a step further – and given the largely acoustic nature of this pack, I decided a great way to go was to create custom IRs from a variety of unique and distinctive spaces, and then handle all the musical and vocal elements performed accordingly.” – Lhasa Mencur.
