More details
Rare Winds
The transverse flute enjoyed its golden age in the Baroque era, becoming the forerunner of the modern concert flute. The Baroque oboe covers the soprano range, while the oboe da caccia covers the alto register. The latter resembles a hunting horn more than an oboe, due to its curved tube and brass bell. The ophicleide is a wind instrument with a conical bore, today superseded by the saxophone and tuba. The serpent is the ancestor of the contrabassoon and tuba, covering the bass register of the cinquefoil (or cornet) family of instruments. The cinquefoil (or cornet) was a popular instrument during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, covering the soprano and sopranino registers. The crumhorn produces a typically bright and nasal tone, often associated with Renaissance music. Wooden recorders include soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.
Natural Trumpets
Natural trumpets were originally used as military instruments for transmitting acoustic signals. Because they lack valves, these instruments are distinguished by their longer tubes compared to modern trumpets. The same applies to the natural French horn, which has no fingerholes or keys and can only produce natural tones according to the harmonic series. Different tuning slides are used to play harmonic scales in different keys. The glass harmonica is a unique gem, invented in 1761. Hemispherical glass bowls rotate around a horizontal axis, driven by a pedal. Sounds are produced by touching the rotating bowls with wet fingertips. Today, the glass harmonica is an absolute rarity; there are only about ten professional performers worldwide.
World-Class Acoustics
Vienna Synchron Player uses a custom-developed convolution reverberation system based on Vienna MIR Pro 3D, achieving superb acoustics in the 540 sq m (5,813 sq ft) main hall of Synchron Stage Vienna. Perfectly crafted reverb and placement presets combine customizable impulse responses with expertly tailored reverb settings for each instrument or ensemble. Adding the real-time ambience of Synchron Stage Vienna’s Stage A to relatively dry samples, Studio Special Edition pairs perfectly with any other Synchron product, delivering a ready-to-use sound out of the box. By disabling the internal convolution reverb, you can place all instruments and ensembles anywhere in the stereo field and in any acoustic environment, from dry rooms to stages and halls.
NSK Integration
Studio Special Edition supports Native Instruments’ NKS format and is compatible with Komplete Kontrol and Maschine keyboards. Use the indicator light to quickly identify the key switches and playback ranges of your instruments, preview and preview sounds, and quickly adapt them using the preset controls.
