Description:
The 821A is the first transformerless multitrack tape machine. It has no capstan or pinch roller, so the tape path moves freely without resistance and audio signal degradation.
For the first time, engineers and producers could hear the physics of the recording process without the interference of redundant electronics. They experienced the unaltered sound of the tape and were able to provide clients with a clearer understanding of what was captured on the studio floor.
The P821 MDN Tape is based on Mark Daniel Nelson’s personal Stephens 821 2″ tape machine, which was used at Producer’s Workshop, known for releasing iconic albums such as The Wall, Aja, Rumours and more.
The P821’s signature sound is very open and vibrant, thanks to the tape deck’s almost entirely free of electronics and transformers, creating a massive soundstage without aggressive compression. This is the first plug-in of its kind where you can truly hear the tape and its response.
Now, hearing the P821 MDN Tape plugin recreates that same experience. It’s truly incredible and unlike anything else.
