Description:
J60 | Six voices, one chorus, and the sound of the early 80s. Built based on the original circuitry, not samples.
Overview:
* Verified against the service manual. The manual lists the calibration settings applied to each unit at the factory. We verified the J60 using this same list: filter self-oscillation, envelope timing, LFO frequency, and chorus behavior.
* No samples. The oscillators, filter, VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier), and envelope function as actual electronic circuits while you play. Nothing is played back from recordings.
* Chorus I, II, and both combined. We also modeled the buffered delay lines, including an earlier, slower version—the same one heard on the original factory demo recording.
* 253 presets. Includes both factory banks, patch examples from the original user manual, and 98 of our own presets, organized into 11 categories. If that’s not enough, there are four additional preset sets, each containing 40 sounds.
The original instrument is simple: one oscillator per voice, one filter, one envelope, and a chorus. Much of its character comes from how these components behave within an actual circuit, rather than just a list of features. It is precisely this behavior that we have modeled.
You’ll notice it the moment you start playing. The filter changes color as resonance increases; short envelopes sound truly sharp, while sustained chords exhibit a subtle vibration rather than sounding static. What you get:
* Six voices: sawtooth, pulse wave with PWM, sub-oscillator, and noise; a high-pass filter, a resonant low-pass filter, and a single envelope generator. The layout mirrors the original front panel.
* Arpeggiator: up, down, and up-down modes, spanning one to three octaves, operable in free-running mode or synchronized to your DAW.
* Memory section: banks, patch numbers, manual mode, and save/write functions, plus transposition and key hold.
* Tape save and load functionality, using the original cassette format.
* Unison (as described in the owner’s manual): all six voices triggered by a single note. There is no detuning, as all oscillators are driven by a common master clock—add chorus if you wish to widen the sound.
* Eco, Normal, and High-quality modes. Eco saves CPU resources during operation, while exports are always rendered in High-quality mode. Supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz.
PCCN™
Most emulators model the output—such as a specific curve, a filter formula, or a recorded waveform. PCCN, by contrast, models the actual circuitry, calculating it in real-time as the audio signal passes through. This is why nuances like the coloration of the filter or the movement of the chorus effect are reproduced exactly as they are on the original hardware.
