The Celtic duo twst & CROOK are gaining momentum in an interdimensional space. Welsh-born twst are a true digital enigma: their debut EP, “TWST0001,” blends a subversive songwriting approach with themes of online identity, surveillance, and female empowerment, and includes remixes from Clams Casino, AmPm, and Hudson Mohawke. In 2024, their track “Upgrade (CROOK’s System Update)” became a smash hit after Charli XCX played it at the BRAT album release party.

CROOK, the man behind the aforementioned “System Update,” is an Irish producer and artist whose work blends antiquity and hyperrealism. Having recently infused Irish folk into his latest album, ELIO, and created the unconventional melodies for Raisa and Rahim Redcar’s “No Genius,” CROOK thrives on such high-contrast, deeply collaborative projects. His body is currently “in a state of advanced Celtic cryostasis” so he can complete “album-scale exocapitalist projects” for twst (and others).

“Triskelion” is the name of a Neolithic triple-spiral motif found in Celtic tradition, symbolizing the trinity: past, present, and future; spiritual, earthly, and heavenly. Angelic vocals and folksy harps blend harmoniously with euphoric club rhythms. “We really enjoyed combining what feels ancient with elements of a possible future,” the duo comment.

This album weaves experimental textures into a tapestry of contemporary pop composition, each melody as smooth as silk. Despite their fantastical quality, the sounds always serve the song. “We created these sounds either because we needed them, or because they momentarily rewired our imagination, hinting at the possibility of an entire song; an entire world.”
