Description: Enter the studio of insanely creative musician, songwriter, producer and mixer David Rench! In this six-part series, Rench walks you through the process of making a recording of his electronic duo, Audiobooks. The song is called “Friends In the Bubble Bath” and it exemplifies the band’s quirky, old-school aesthetic. Learn about the unusual songwriting approach taken by Evangeline Ling and David Rench, featuring drummer Stella Mozgawa (of Warpaint). In a multitrack session, Wrench explores song arrangement and reveals his mixing techniques with simple yet effective plugin chains. He also explains his sampling techniques and discusses why he switched to mixing completely “in the box”, preferring analog synthesis over MIDI. He explains why he avoids parallel processing, mixes with a limiter, and addresses the dynamic range issue with clients requesting more obvious loudness.
