Of all the drums of Afro-Latin origins and collections thereof, timbales are conspicuously rarely included. The best library for timbales I’ve seen available was in Battery 3; Battery 4 threw out most organic instruments. The next best source for timbales was “Cuba” for Kontakt. Timbales can be a furious voice for solos, or like on Grace Jones’ version of “Private Life”, a single hit on the “4” in the last measure of a verse is powerful stuff 🙂
