Description : Virtual elliptical equalizer.
Such a tool is a special case of an equalizer that takes root in the vinyl era. Such an instrument is necessary because when the bass frequencies go out of phase or the difference between the left and right channels is too wide, the needle can jump out of the groove in the final vinyl mix, so the elliptical equalizer works on the difference of the two channels and removes some of the low frequencies and prevents this problem .
While reviving vinyl, you can use such a tool to reduce the bass stereo width on your tracks to troubleshoot if there is some antiphase between the left and right channels or for more impact and the presence of your bass, making it mono.
Elliptical eq works with the side component of the signal, so first the plug-in encodes the stereo signal in Mid / Side, highlighting the difference between the left and right channels, then the channel side is filtered with a low shelf, leaving only the middle part intact, after such processing you get a stereo output reduced in stereo latitude and low frequencies.
HoRNet ElliptiQ allows you to filter frequencies up to 2000 Hz, so it is well expands the average frequency. To cut stereo audio information, you can use a Butterworth-style lower shelf with three different modes of slope: 12, 24 and 48 dB / octave, from a delicate curve to a very steep one.
EllpitiQ also offers a unique β€œautomatic width” function. When activated, the difference between middle and side information is continuously evaluated, and if the value of one side is too high (therefore the bass stereo width is too wide), it is automatically reduced to avoid creating a problem and giving more influence on the track.
The plugin also provides a very convenient correlation meter, divided into seven key frequencies, so that you can identify problems with antiphase in different regions of the spectrum.
