Three decades of hip-hop bass : With the Bass Engine, we studied the last three decades of hip-hop production and selected the most characteristic bass sounds of this era. These basses include everything from the dusty jazz double bass to the shaking dance floor 808, etc.
1990 : 1990s were the golden era of hip-hop, common production methods are associated with extensive use of sampling with machines such as the MPC 60 MKII or SP-1200. The bass lines, which consist of bass notes, are sampled from old vinyl records by Funk, Soul and RnB. The first 100 presets in Bass Engine represent this unique sound, so be prepared for crisp bass, deep Moog tones, live electric samples and abstract jazz bass.
2000 : During the 2000s, the production technology changed slightly with an increase in the number of producers using hardware bass synthesizers to achieve a pleasant deep and driving sound. Emu Mo ‘Phatt was a popular rack module, while the ASR-10 and MPC 3000 samplers were still actively used by traditional hip-hop musicians of the old school. The second set of 100 presets in Bass Engine represent this smoother sound, so you will find deep dirty bass, tight subs, greasy patches from Triton and vinyl cuts.
2010 : In 2010, synthesis, sub-bass and sound 808 dominated. Be it hip-hop, trap, dubstep or even reggae. These highly processed, but deep “dirty” bass sounds were the destroyers of clubs and festivals around the world. The final 100 presets include twenty different 808s, Moog Prodigy Sabs, warm MS-20 with a deep atmosphere and a whole collection of low-frequency and powerful bass.
