Description: Avenged Sevenfold (“Avenged Sevenfold”) is an American rock band from Huntington Beach, formed in 1999.
On the debut album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, metalcore and screaming prevailed. Waking the Fallen was already something between Heavy Metal and Metalcore, well, and by the third album (and the first major release for the label) City of Evil, the sound was already like that of classic heavy metal bands. On December 28, 2009, the band’s drummer, James Sullivan, died of acute intoxication caused by the combined effects of drugs and alcohol. Despite his death, the band continued recording with the help of (now former) Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who helped record the parts and toured with them in support of their fifth album Nightmare until the end of 2010, (The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 for the first time for the band). To date, Avenged Sevenfold has released five studio albums, one live album/compilation/DVD, and fifteen singles. The band itself has received much praise for their success worldwide and has been hailed as one of the leaders and key bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal and was ranked second in Ultimate Guitar’s “Top Ten Bands of the Decade”.
