Description:
Four-band console equalizer.
Features two shelving bands and two peaking (bell) bands, all of which remain in the signal path at all times; setting a band to its center position adds nothing to the signal, so there is no need to toggle individual bands on or off. The low-frequency band ranges from 30 to 450 Hz, and the high-frequency band from 1.5 to 16 kHz. There are also two mid-frequency bands—one ranging from 200 Hz to 2.5 kHz, and the other from 600 Hz to 7 kHz—each with an adjustable Q factor (bandwidth) from 0.5 to 3. Two range-switching buttons shift the frequency controls: the “÷3” setting shifts the mid-frequency bands down into the low-mid range, while the “×3” setting shifts the high-frequency bands up to approximately 21 kHz. Each gain control offers a range of ±17 dB. The bands respond to gain and Q settings in the same manner as a hardware console channel, with the low-end and “air” frequencies retaining their characteristic depth.

Overview
High-Pass and Low-Pass Filters: The high-pass filter operates in a range from 20 Hz to 350 Hz, while the low-pass filter covers 12 kHz down to 3 kHz. In the OFF position, the filter is completely bypassed; a small LED beneath each knob indicates when it is active. The EQ ON switch bypasses the entire equalizer section, including the filters, allowing for quick before-and-after comparisons.

Preamp Saturation — MIC and LINE
The preamp is positioned at the start of the signal chain. The LINE setting preserves clarity in the high frequencies while adding warmth to the low end; the MIC setting provides a broader, brighter sound. The drive control operates from -12 dB to +24 dB, with an output stage that maintains a consistent level—meaning that increasing the drive alters the tonal character (timbre) rather than the volume. Below 0 dB, the sound is cleaner, while above 0 dB, harmonic content increases. The entire stage utilizes oversampling, ensuring that harmonics do not fold back into the audible frequency range.

Gate (Console-Style)
Controls include a THRESHOLD ranging from -30 to +10, an attenuation RANGE of 0 to 40 dB, and a release TIME of 0.1 to 4 seconds, along with a FAST attack toggle. The HYSTT (hysteresis) control determines how far below the opening threshold the gate closes again, preventing issues like a decaying tom or a ringing snare from “chattering” at the threshold point. A column of LEDs on the left indicates the amount of gain reduction applied by the gate. Feedback Compressor: Before or After the Equalizer

This compressor analyzes its own output signal, causing the compression ratio to become steeper as the amount of compression increases—ranging from 1:1 up to infinity (limiting). A second mode, “CHANNEL”—accessible with a single click on the LED located beneath the compressor’s power button—switches the unit to a simple feed-forward compressor. Designed for tracking, it delivers a clean sound on bass-heavy or bright sources and utilizes the same set of controls. The RELEASE knob allows for a recovery time ranging from 0.1 to 4 seconds; an “AUTO” button, located at the top of the control, enables program-dependent recovery, while a “SLOW” button adjusts the attack time. The HPSC (High-Pass Side-Chain) filter affects the side-chain signal up to 250 Hz, preventing low frequencies from triggering the compressor. The LINK control determines the degree to which the detectors for both channels are coupled, and the MIX control allows for the blending of the dry signal for parallel compression. The “C→EQ” button swaps the order of the compressor and the equalizer. The “SC INT” (Side-Chain Internal) function removes the equalizer from the main audio path and routes it into the compressor’s side-chain; boosting a specific frequency band here causes the compressor to react to that band without altering the overall tonal balance—effectively turning the unit into a frequency-dependent processor, such as a de-esser. There is no dedicated “threshold” knob; the output level determines the compression threshold.

Display for Each Stage
The MASTER window features input and output meters with peak-level indicators—clicking on a meter resets the values (they also reset automatically when playback stops)—along with a central display area that offers five different visualization modes. SAT displays the harmonics generated by the preamp at a given input signal level; GATE shows the input and output signals in relation to a threshold value in real time; COMP indicates the level of compression; EQ displays the curve you have set; and FFT shows the spectrum of the output signal. The chosen display view is saved along with your session. The MODE setting in the panel allows you to switch between STEREO and MONO—in MONO mode, the plugin processes only the left input of a stereo track and routes it to both outputs.

Zero Latency and Workflow
By default, SAMUEL operates with zero latency—much like a channel on an analog mixing console—allowing it to be used on every track in a session, as well as on live input signals. For mixing, the QUALITY setting in the panel offers HQ and ULTRA modes, which can be selected independently for real-time use and rendering. In these modes, the saturation and bus compressor utilize additional oversampling, ensuring clarity in the high-frequency range even during intensive processing. This introduces a small amount of latency, which SAMUEL reports to the host DAW for automatic compensation (HQ: 32 samples). The QUALITY setting is session-specific; it remains unchanged when loading presets, and the “APPLY TO ALL” function allows you to copy your current quality setting to all other instances of SAMUEL in your session. Input and output levels can be adjusted by ±24 dB. The top panel includes a bypass function with a 10ms crossfade, undo/redo, an “INITIALIZE” (reset) option, a preset browser, an A/B comparison feature (with the ability to copy settings between states), as well as “Save” and “Save As” functions. The plugin window is also resizable.

Version updated!

R2R :
The previous version, 1.0.21, contained a work-in-progress version of the keygen. The license could only be decrypted on our specific test computer; consequently, none of the previous issues (such as the lack of audio output) were resolved.
You must re-activate the plugin using the new keygen.
