Stuttermation is a timeline-based multi-effect plugin for Windows VST3 designed for stutter, glitch, resampling, and sound design effects. Instead of relying on MIDI triggers or fixed LFO patterns, you can draw effect blocks directly onto a DAW-synced timeline.
Overview:
Each block represents a distinct sound design event with independent parameters for timing, tempo, source, playback, gating, probability, envelopes, effects, multiband processing, and mixing. Create precise rhythmic edits—including accelerating glitches, reverse slices, mid-track interruptions, pitch shifts, resonant textures, lo-fi degradation, animated stereo effects, and full loop transformations—all within a single plugin.
Key Features:
Timeline-based construction: Draw, resize, move, mark, copy, paste, and arrange blocks on a DAW-synced timeline up to 500 bars long. Includes snapping controls, cursor-centered zooming, smooth scrolling, auto-scrolling, an interactive minimap, and source markers.
Block-based slicing engine: Tempo defines the structure of musical fragments, while buffer length, pitch, reverse, alternation, pause, gate, and other processing parameters shape each fragment without altering the total number of fragments.
Tempo and ultra-fast rates: Set start and end rates or draw custom rate curves. Rates range down to 1/4096—from slow rhythmic repeats to micro-stutters.
Flexible playback: Choose forward, reverse, or alternating playback. Pause mode provides slower, tape-style playback while preserving the block’s rhythmic structure.
Musical buffer control: At shorter buffer lengths, only a selected portion of each fragment plays, after which the sound is smoothed to silence. Longer values correspond to a slice pattern that avoids unwanted pitch-shifted repetition.
Extended source selection: Capture from the start of the block, playhead position, fixed offset, or a reusable source marker placed on the timeline.
Source morphing: Morph between two audio sources within a block. Use fixed transitions, envelopes, and other motion modes, including independent settings for low, mid, and high-frequency sources in multi-band mode.
Block-based multi-band processing: Compatible envelopes can operate in standard full-range mode or split mode, with independent curves for low, mid, and high frequencies. Global crossover controls include adjustable frequencies and slopes of 12, 24, or 48 dB/octave.
Deep envelope system: Shaping frequency, gate, tape, pitch, volume, high-pass filter, low-pass filter, drive, bit reduction, sample rate reduction, frequency shift, flanger, ring modulation, width, pan, fold, asymmetry, Mid/Side balance, bit error, noise, dispersion, and resonator processing.
Reorderable effects chain: Pitch remains fixed at the desired position before the slice, while compatible post-effects can be reordered within the block by dragging their envelope tabs.
Input Follower: Apply input signal dynamics to compatible effects by adjusting envelope depth for smooth rhythmic and tonal movement. Gate and transition control: Truncate, Fade, and T-Safe gate shapes provide clean cuts, smooth transitions, or transition-aware cuts. Each block also includes gate, attack, decay, and a dedicated gate delay.
Creative sound processing: Includes drive oversampling, wave shaping, asymmetry, bit/sample rate reduction, bit errors, noise characteristics, frequency shifting, ring modulation, flanger, stereo width, Mid/Side shaping, dispersion, tape motion simulation, and a polyphonic resonator with controls for chord, octave, timbre, material, decay, softness, and stereo.
Envelope editing tools: Use up to 32 points per curve with adjustable tension, built-in shapes, copy/paste, reset, and randomize functions, marker-based point selection, group movement, vertical shifting, and enable/disable controls for each envelope.
Generative tools: Randomize Rate Env, effect envelopes, all envelopes, block settings, or probability using multiple intensity levels. Disabled envelopes remain protected from randomization.
Probability controls: Block probability determines whether the entire block triggers, while slice probability creates controlled pauses and evolving rhythmic variations.
Per-block mixing and volume: Mix each block independently using the Block Mix function and boost its output up to 200%, alongside a global Wet/Dry control and output stage.
