Plays like a drum machine. Moves like a drummer. NEON is a Virtual Drummer plugin from UJAM designed for Nu Disco-style drum kits and dance-pop grooves. These styles are characterized by a tight, punchy drum sound that cuts through the mix, combined with a driving, forward-moving rhythm.
Inspired by 1970s disco legends like Chic and the Bee Gees, NEON’s rhythm engine injects an organic liveliness into the music that only a real drummer can provide. The recorded drum kits are authentic vintage sets from legendary manufacturers such as Ludwig and Rogers. We recorded them in a small studio using microphones typical of that era and outboard gear like the Sennheiser MD 421 and Neve 1073. This pristine, vintage drum sound is then processed on a modern mixing console—running under the hood of Virtual Drummer NEON—controlled by six mix presets. This blend of vintage recording and modern processing is what gives NEON its signature sound.
