Description: The Ensoniq VFX synthesizer was originally released as a performance-oriented synthesizer in 1989. The VFX-SD model followed shortly thereafter, featuring updated waveforms (drum waves), a 24-track sequencer, and floppy disk storage. Both models were equipped with the Ensoniq Signal Processing (ESP), enabling 24-bit effects processing. The VFX-SD also included two aux outputs, which were included in the total of four outputs, for greater control flexibility. Initial models featured 21-voice polyphony, while the later VFX-SD (I/II) and SD-1 models featured 32 voices.
There were many features that made this synthesizer line popular. Some of them are:
The synthesizer’s sound itself. Live performance capabilities.
Versatility of the sequencer software (VFX-SD’s).
