Description: We often use objects around us to imitate real instruments, which are often composed of combinations of different materials. This got us thinking: why not simply use one type of material to create new sounds?
We love a good challenge, and that’s how Elements came to be.
This kit had its challenges, especially when it came to constructing the drums. Water itself doesn’t resonate like wood. So, we had to strike specific containers that would allow the sound of running water to pass through rather than suppress it.
Elsewhere, tonal sounds would be too difficult to extract from our recordings, so we ultimately selected the most unique sounds as IR samples and grain samples in Madrona Labs’ Kaivo.
Despite our best efforts, we managed to keep the sonic identity of water intact while still creating very useful samples. These sounds are unlike anything we’ve heard, and certainly not like what’s in most sample packs these days.
