    My father was partners with a genius of piano/organ/harpsichord and other musical instrument repair and restoration……. I followed in his tracks a few years; I’ve spent more than enough days in thick clouds of lacquer and sawdust 🙂
    They were called to tune a monstrous pipe organ somewhere here in the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia region. To flatten a pitch they’d shave a few layers of wood, increasing the diameter of the pipe. To sharpen a pitch they’d add layers taken from the other pipes.
    It’s amazing to me that something that generates tones and harmonies that’s essentially as big as a house can be emulated on something the size of a cel phone 🙂
