The Molzer organ reflects the spirit of Vienna’s rich musical heritage, offering a combination of profound resonance and stunning craftsmanship. Built in 1938 by the renowned Ferdinand Molzer, this organ is a testament to the perfect fusion of art and engineering.
Its deep, harmonious tones filled sacred spaces, concert halls, the Vienna State Opera, and now your DAW: powered by our custom-designed organ player, this magnificent reconstruction of the Moltzer organ not only brings Austrian history to life but is equally at home in traditional church organ playing and creating deep, swirling sounds like those from Leslie speakers, ready to rock your world.
Viennese History
This 25-stop multiplex organ was built by Ferdinand Moltzer, who was professor of organ construction at the University of Music in Vienna in 1938. It features two manuals and a pedal keyboard, as well as three ranks of flute pipes: main, flute, and string. Its 267 pipes, made of wood, zinc, and organ metal alloy, range in length from 10 mm (0.39 in) to 2.5 meters (8.2 ft).
For many years, this particular Moltzer organ belonged to pianist and organist Professor Leopold Marksteiner and was housed in his apartment in the Cavriani Palace in Vienna’s first district. Notably, he was the organ teacher of the Austrian writer, playwright, and Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek. True to this tradition, the Moltzer organ is now part of the outstanding collection of historical musical instruments at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna.
Organ for On-stage Recording
This beautiful salon organ was recorded in the exceptional acoustics of the large A-stage of the Synchron Stage Vienna theater. This marks the first time that a historic salon organ has been recorded on-stage, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with small or large orchestras playing in the same space. Although significantly smaller than a typical pipe organ, the venerable salon organ is no less rich in dynamic range and timbres, capable of both majestic fanfares and quiet contemplation.
Organic Crescendos
The Molzer organ also offers a standard feature of Romantic organs: a crescendo roller (or roller swiller), allowing the performer to create smooth crescendos from pianissimo to tutti and back again by adding or removing registers. Furthermore, the organ features four fixed combinations (piano, mezzoforte, forte, tutti), which have been masterfully restored and fine-tuned by Austrian organ builder Franz Eisenhut.
Organ Player
Our signature virtual organ player offers great flexibility and possibilities. It allows easy control of the organ’s manuals and pedals, providing convenient access to the various registers for creating registers. What’s more, the Vienna Organ Player is multitimbral, so you can access the manuals and pedals via dedicated MIDI channels.
Navigating the player is easy thanks to three main tabs. The COMBINE tab provides an overview of all organ drawbars, divided into manuals and pedals. The MIX tab allows access to signals from all seven microphone positions, which you can use to create your own sound. The PLAY tab provides access to parameters useful for live performance, including crescendo, tremolo, and tremolo speed controls.
Mixer presets such as Close, Classic, Wide, Church, Leslie, Rock Organ, and others make it easy to customize the sound you want. Use them as a convenient starting point for your own sonic creations!
The organ player also includes our powerful tuning system. Explore a variety of tuning presets, import your own Scala and KBM files, and creatively experiment with advanced microtuning options like MTS-ESP for dynamic tuning changes.
