The B-flat trumpet, when played muted, produces an even softer and more pleasant sound than its C counterpart, making it ideal for lyrical solos and introspective passages. This virtual instrument brings the unique, muted tones of the B-flat trumpet to your studio, delivering exceptional clarity and nuance in every note. Recorded in its purest form in the dense, controlled atmosphere of our Silent Stage studio, this instrument embodies the art of musical restraint.

The Voice of Jazz

With its muted tones, the B-flat trumpet is a favorite in jazz, where its lyrical and intimate sound enhances the genre’s emotional narrative. Miles Davis famously used the muted trumpet in B-flat to great effect. Beyond jazz, the instrument’s versatility also manifests itself in orchestral and film arrangements, where its subtle, slightly nasal tone blends beautifully with brass and string ensembles.

Mastery of the Mute

During the recording of the B-flat trumpet mute, trumpeter Alfred (Freddy) Staudigl, one of the oldest musicians at the Vienna Symphony Library, once again demonstrated his mastery. His skillfully executed lines transform the B-flat trumpet into an effective crossover instrument, expanding the classic European style with more intense vibrato and sharper tones without sacrificing aesthetics.

Versatility and Expressiveness

A wide range of articulations, such as rips and flaps, crisp staccato, legato, portamento, and fluttery linguistics, demonstrate the instrument’s expressive versatility in every detail. Recording samples relatively dry on the Silent Stage allows you to place them anywhere in your virtual stage and stereo field, and integrate the instrument with our Synchron series using an internal convolution reverb that recreates our own Vienna Synchron Stage.
